India Sourcing Summit Gathers 140 Global Buyers and Suppliers

Global buyers and suppliers made major connections at India Summit.

March 15, 2007 GURGAON, INDIA – In some Asian beliefs, rain symbolizes prosperity, hope and opportunities. So perhaps it was a sign of things to come as the unseasonable rains ushered in The First Index India Sourcing Summit and Supplier Identification Meeting at The Bristol Hotel. Over 140 Global Buyers and Suppliers gathered for the two-day event March 13th – 14th. The following are just a few of the companies in attendance: GE Healthcare, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Embraco (Whirlpool S.A.), Ashbrook Simon-Hartley, and The Charles Machine Works.

First Index CEO, John Jung kicked off the meeting by highlighting the event mission: To assist the establishment of global supply chains, to engage long-term corporate strategies through network opportunities and finally to offer the tools necessary to establish long-term and multi-regional global supply chain investments. “Our core mission is to put buyers and suppliers in direct contact so they can build profitable business relationships,” said First Index Sr. Vice President of Operations, Bill Burke, “and these events are a critical part of accomplishing that mission. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received from the attendees here in Gurgaon is a reminder that there is no substitute for sitting down face to face with potential business partners and quickly determining whether there is a fit.”

Buyers in attendance agreed, noting that having scheduled meetings with suppliers selected for each buyer’s specific commodities made for an effective use of time. “For me to come to India, it may take six to seven trips to yield one to two suppliers,” says Joe Wright, Materials Manager, from Ashbrook Simon-Hartley. “By attending this two-day seminar, I’m leaving with twelve to fourteen quality suppliers. I’ve been given the option to choose, which ultimately gives me quality and savings.”

“The suppliers were incredibly pleased with the outcome of the inaugural India show,” says Himanshu Kapoor, Director of Asia and Managing Director of First Index India. “The event demonstrates the high level of commitment of buying organizations. As I met with both suppliers and buyers, the consensus was clear that many high quality connections were made at the event.” Mr. Kapoor continues, “It is one week after the meeting and the returns have already stared coming into our office. I am very confident in our product and am pleased that we were able to host this event and share it with our clients in our country.”

“We recently began searching for suppliers in India and China. We went to the China Show last November and now we’re back for India this week. First Index has really given us the confidence to go into these countries,” said Carrie Traybsza, Senior Buyer at DitchWitch. “We’ll continue to partner with First Index; they are truly our feet on the street in low cost countries.”  In order to maximize their time in India, many buyers also took advantage of accompanied supplier facility visits on the days immediately following the Summit. “The India First Index team really did their homework,” continues Ms. Traybsza. “We had a profile analysis before we got to the facility and it really helped us.”

In addition to the buyer-supplier meetings, educational seminars were presented on topics such as: India Growth Story: Case Study-Auto Component Industry, Supplier Quality Issues and Preparedness Levels; and Lessons from IPOs in India and Doing Business in India: The Legal Angle. At the conclusion of the meeting, each buyer received a consolidated CD copy of all the presentations. For a schedule of upcoming events, visit www.firstindex.com or email events@firstindex.com
