I have used First Index for several years. They are a great help in finding alternative vendors which allows me to keep a close eye on costs and keeps my current vendors on their toes. Just recently I outsourced assemblies that previously had been made in house. On one assembly I was able to reduce my cost per part from $70.00 to $12.50. On the other, the cost dropped from $60.00 to $8.50. In addition to the cost savings per part, I also was able to reduce my overall assembly time, as the subassemblies were available for use. Commodore Machine Co. started using First Index on a regular basis February 2001. Over the course of 11 months Commodore sent out 97 different components for quote. For those 97 RFQ’s, Commodore received quotes from 44 different First Index members. The total number of unique quotes received was 849. Commodore has placed orders for 60% of the components sent out for quote with at least 5 different First Index suppliers. Commodore’s average savings on parts ordered is 30%.

Statement about First Index November 2001 The Sony Technology Center-Pittsburgh in Mt. Pleasant, PA recently used First Index in an 82 item bid process. All drawings were scanned and electronically sent to potential suppliers. Receiving a collective spreadsheet of all prices and services was efficient. Through the First Index process, Sony was introduced to machine shops in the area that were not current suppliers. We have been using First Index for about six months and are very pleased with the results...After receiving 10 or 12 quotes from your member shops, we narrowed our selection to two or three possible sources. We did phone interviews with these shops and then selected our number one candidate. We did an onsite vendor audit of this company to view first hand their operations and meet key personnel. Being completely satisfied with what we saw and heard, our next step was to place a small order for parts to be manufactured by the new potential vendor. The sample order was approved and we have since then placed several successive orders of our normal order quantity. This vendor will now be our number one source for this series of parts...Our experiences with First Index have been rewarding to us as well as their members. First of all, I want to thank you for a simple quotation/sourcing service that actually works. Using your service accomplished more in two weeks that I was able to get done in eight weeks using traditional methods. Your system gave us exposure to more interested vendors than we anticipated. We actually received 9 quotes from manufacturers represented by your organization and selected one of them as the sole supplier for our product. The quotes with two exceptions were competitive and fell within the expected price range. I would recommend your process to any manufacturer looking to obtain quotes on fabricated assemblies...I will call you immediately the next time we have a requirement for fabricated assemblies.
