Swap Rates & Rollovers
A swap rate is the interest paid or earned for holding a position overnight, weather a trader goes long or short on a trade. Currency trading swaps are credited or debited at 00:00 in the market watch window in the meta trader 4(MT4) platform or 5pm New York time.
Swap Rates are entirely affected by market conditions including the interest rates throughout different countries/currencies. Rates are released weekly and are applied only when a position is kept overnight.
A rollover in trading is simply the process of keeping a position beyond the trading contract's expiry.
